Start from a clean base
Begin with a simple, even base so later layers stay sharp instead of muddy.
Paint in layers
Block in large shapes first, then add liner, blush and detail work on top.
Balance your colours
Two or three harmonious colours read better from the voting screen than ten competing ones.
Redo before you submit
You can rework a design before the timer ends — use that time to clean edges and rebalance.
